Late Nite Thoughts.....
On a thread on TSW we've been discussing history. I should come clean, I'm older than anyone on that blog. I feel younger inside although I notice that I have some really weird wrinkles and a tendency to gain weight. I still have contributions to make...even my memories should be important. I remember seeing a strange looking man at a rest stop on the way to Bagiuo in the PI. As I looked back through the bus window, I realized he had not ears and was completely bald. The Japanese had done that to him during the occupation, I know not why. Our housekeeper, Pacita Palanco, had three fatherless children. Her husband was hung up by his heels and stripped of his skin, day after day, because he smuggled food to the POWs. When we were returning to the States before going to Hawaii, we wanted to take an MSTS ship to Japan. Pacita cried and cried about that. We changed ships and went back to Guam, instead. I should say here that Jo and I were ready to sacrifice a college education for Pacita to come with us to the States...that was in the day where that was a really big sacrifice, not a joke...I love the PI, deep in my soul..a second home and a beautiful home..
